Senior researcher
PhD

DETAILS

During the last few years, I established my own research line on identifying potential biomarkers of cancer, where I particularly concentrate on changes in post-translational modifications on prostate-specific antigen (prostate cancer) and other tumor antigens (acute myeloid leukemia and colorectal cancer). Additionally, my research focuses on the development and improvement of glycoanalytical platforms to study protein glycosylation in an in-depth manner. Due to my strong passion for clinical translational research, I aim to translate discovered biomarkers into a clinical setting with a specific focus on personalized diagnostics enabling better patient stratification approaches; to eventually  achieve an impact on patient care with the research performed in our lab.

CURRICULUM VITAE

  • Guinevere S.M. LageveenKammeijer is a senior researcher at the Glycomics group at the Center for Proteomics and Metabolomics. She defended her thesis: “Unravelling the Sugar-Coating of Prostate-Specific Antigen – Method Development and its Application to Prostate Cancer Research” in 2019 and established her own research line on identifying potential biomarkers of prostate cancer, where she particularly concentrates on changes in post-translational modifications on prostate-specific antigen and other tumor antigens.

Her research interest lie in the glycomics field and the technology capillary electrophoresis hyphenated with mass spectrometry. She is interested in the analysis of various biofluids for the identification of potential glycobiomarkers for several diseases (e.g. cancer and inflammation). Preferably using capillary electrophoresis hyphenated with mass spectrometry to gain in-depth knowledge at high sensitivity.

2019 – Present:               Senior scientist, Leiden University Medical Center, Department Center for Proteomics and Metabolomics, Leiden, The Netherlands. Working on the identification of tumor antigens in cancer in a highly sensitive manner.

2013-2019:         PhD candidate, Leiden University Medical Center, Department Center for Proteomics and Metabolomics, Leiden, The Netherlands which lead to the thesis entitled: “Unravelling the Sugar-Coating of Prostate-Specific Antigen – Method.

2018:                   Visiting scientist, Northeastern University, Department Chemical and Biological Analysis, Boston, United States. Working on the development and evaluation of analytical approaches for the characterization of protein charge and proteoform heterogeneity using CE-ESI-MS under supervision of Prof. Dr. Alexander Ivanov.

2017-pres:         Member of the Organization Committee of The Netherlands Area Biotech (NLab) Discussion Group.

2018-pres:         Scientific committee member of the Glycomics session as well as the Early Career Scientist at Mass Spectrometry Applications to the Clinical Lab (MSACL) EU conference.

2019-pres:          Member of the Werkgroep Scheidingsmethoden which is part of the Section Analytical Chemistry of the KNCV.

After a successful defense on her thesis: “Unravelling the Sugar-Coating of Prostate-Specific Antigen – Method Development and its Application to Prostate Cancer Research”. Her work seems to be of broad interest for the scientific community with already more than 30 international presentations, from which 15 on invitation. Furthermore, she received several fellowships in collaboration with the Urology department at the Amsterdam University Medical Centers, location AMC and Astellas to support her own research line and a total of 7 travel grants for several conferences.

Moreover, Guinevere is part of the quality control at the CPM and in 2017 she joined as a member of the organization committee from the Netherlands Area Biotech (NLab) Discussion group supported by CASSS. In 2019, she became a member of the scientific committee of the glycomics session, and a member of the early career committee, of MSACL EU. Her research interests are focused on bringing together researchers from the field of biomarker discovery with clinical laboratory professionals, ensuring a better translation of potential biomarkers to the clinic. Moreover, she is dedicated to convincing her fellow colleagues that glycosylation is an important subject and should not be neglected just because it is rather complicated.
